SOS Cats RVA is an all-volunteer Trap, Neuter, and Return organization. We have been helping community cats in and around Central VA since 2003. SOS Cats RVA is a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization.

Our mission is to protect and advocate for community cats through spay/neuter, rescue, adoption, and educational programs. We seek to build a more humane community that embraces compassionate approaches to reducing feline overpopulation, homelessness, and needless suffering.

All of our funding comes from donations. TNR work is not inexpensive, while there are some free feral surgery appointments available, gas, traps, cat food, carriers, crates, pee pads, flea treat, medication and medical treatment are needed on an ongoing basis.

In 2024, SOS Cats RVA

facilitated the trap, neuter and return of more than 430 community cats.

fostered, neutered, vaccinated, and located loving homes for 77 cats and kittens.

built and distributed dozens of insulated cat shelters throughout RVA and the surrounding area

The Lizzie's Lifeboat fund paid for numerous life-changing surgeries and medical care for sick and injured community cats, including seven tail amputations, four eye enucleations, two limb removals, and multiple wound debridement procedures.

We do not have a shelter facility and all of our foster work and medical rehabilitation is provided in private homes by volunteers. Our work is funded entirely by donations from the general public. SOS Cats RVA is a 501(c)(3) non profit.
